MADD Volunteers
Volunteers: The Heart and Soul of MADD
Volunteers are MADD's backbone and the source of the organization's strength. Without enough volunteers, MADD cannot achieve its mission.
A common myth is that MADD volunteers are all mothers who are angry drunk driving victims. While mothers and victims are an integral part of MADD's volunteer base, more concerned citizens, including men and non-victims, are getting involved.
No Such Thing As a Typical MADD Volunteer
MADD volunteers are males and females of all ages, races, ethnicities, education levels and employment backgrounds, and they have a broad range of skills and talents. The diverse faces of MADD volunteers include homemakers, executives, senior citizens, victims, concerned citizens, students and others.
MADD Volunteers all share one thing in common: they are united in passionate pursuit of putting an end to impaired driving, preventing underage drinking and serving victims of this violent crime.
An Hour or a Lifetime, From Typing to Chapter President
There are so many different ways to be a MADD volunteer. Whether you can give an hour, a lifetime or anything in between, MADD needs your help!!

Every minute of volunteer service has the potential to make an impact on the lives of others. It can make someone think twice before drinking and driving. It can give a victim hope that he or she will be able to laugh and enjoy life again one day.
"What's in it for Me?" - Plenty!
MADD volunteers reap rich rewards - some are tangible and practical while others enhance personal quality of life. The rewards range from acquiring marketable training and skills to the priceless sense of personal achievement, growth and satisfaction that comes from helping someone cope and heal
from a tragedy.
Youth comprise a fast-growing segment of MADD's volunteer force. Young people can captivate a wide spectrum of adults: parents, teachers, business people, city council members, state and federal lawmakers and journalists. Teens also have a lot of impact with their peers - often more than adults on issues of substance use. MADD's Youth In Action (YIA) program combines groups of youth with MADD adult partners to work towards changing laws, strengthening enforcement and advocating a "no use" message for people under the minimum legal drinking age of 21.
MADD volunteers receive training at the local and state levels in beginning and advanced victim advocacy, diversity outreach, court monitoring, public speaking, financial and bookkeeping skills, fundraising, leadership, conflict resolution and more.

Drunk driving isn't something that happens to other people. According to NHTSA, three out of every five Americans will be personally affected by an alcohol-related crash at some time in their lives. The odds today are against us - a majority of us will be in a crash or have a loved one or friend who's in a crash caused by an impaired driver.
If you are interested in donating your time to MADD please fill out the volunteer application and send it via mail to the State Office (155 Wabasha Street S, Suite 104, St. Paul, MN 55107) or via fax 651-523-0817 or email carol.haselmann@madd.org.
