Another Successful Day at the Capitol!!
Nearly 200 youth from across Minnesota braved the snow and the sleet to visit with their legislators on Tuesday, March 31st. This year’s focus for Day at the Capitol was opposing the lowering of the drinking age in Minnesota (HF492) and supporting a primary seatbelt law for our state (HF108.)
Highlights included teen driver safety presentations by Anoka High School SADD students. Anoka SADD has won national recognition for their traffic safety efforts. With traffic crashes being the #1 cause of death among Minnesota teens, Anoka SADD has tools under their belt to remind young drivers to be safe. The students encourage everyone to wear their seat belt and stay alert while driving. To see Anoka SADD’s work, go to www.teendriver411.com
AAA Minneapolis joined us for the Rally in the Rotunda. Their traffic safety campaign, “Fasten and Focus” hosted Project Beltway earlier this year, giving Twin Cities high school students 48 hours to create garments out of seatbelt material. The two winning seatbelt garments flanked the podium, providing an exceptional visual of the power of seatbelt use. To learn more about this project, visit www.fastenandfocus.com
As with previous years at the Capitol, students and their educators did important work reminding their legislators to focus legislation on keeping young Minnesotans safe. They came, they talked, and their voices were heard!
